Mrs. Perna’s Webdesk
Thank you for providing me with well rested children! They are adjusting well to our daily routines. Enrichment classes are fun and exciting to everyone. I am so pleased with our classroom family! Friendships are forming and respect and helpfulness is growing.
For the next several weeks, we will become more and more involved in curriculum. Here is what you can expect!
Language Arts: We have started the unit “Animals Live Here.” The students will continue learning more about characters, setting, sequencing, and classifying. They will learn about nouns for places and things. We will add more High Frequency words as we read each weekly story. They are doing great with this!
Phonics: The students have done well with the short vowel sounds. We will start learning about the long vowel sound near the end of the quarter. We will use two rules that remind the students to pronounce the word with a long or short sound. They will also write sentences.
Bible: We will learn about the birth and life of Jesus during the 2nd quarter. The students will hear Bible stories and participate in crafts, songs, and drama. Look for the memory verse to come home in the parent letter every Monday. The students will recite it to me every Friday. Please help them practice.
Math: The students will continue to explore a variety of manipulative items such as teddy bear counters, pattern blocks, linking cubes and graph charts. We will identify shapes, patterns, and work on sequencing. They will practice writing and identifying numbers 0 – 50 concentrating on the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. We will also practice counting by 5’s and 10’s.

Reminders: P.E. on Tuesday. Wear sneakers please. Chapel on Wednesday 9:30 TO 10. Please join us in Clanton Hall. Girls should wear bike shorts under their skirts because we are on the floor a lot during the day! *Sign and empty white folders each day.*Bring in clean Quiet Time towel every Monday. Used ones will come home every Friday. *Sign reading log each day. *Sign up calendar for Lunch/Recess Duty will be out every Friday at pick-up.
