Welcome to Kindergarten!
Thank you parents for entrusting me with your precious children! It is my hope that the web desk serves to inform you as to what we do in our class. The 1st Nine Weeks:
In Language Arts, the first unit is called All Together Now! How do we live, work, and play together? We will read stories that describe how family’s, friends, and communities live, work, and play together. We will read six stories to share background and prior knowledge, learn amazing words, and develop vocabulary. The students will work on prediction, recall, and retell skills in shared reading. They will be introduced to rhyming words and letters Aa to Ee, along with High-Frequency words. The students will practice writing complete sentences and learn to use naming words.
In Bible, the first quarter unit is called God Created the Perfect World. We will study the first seven days of creation. God’s world is a perfect and beautiful picture of God’s greatness.
In Math, the first quarter will include learning the months of the year, days of the week, geometric shapes, and graphing different kinds of groups. They will use numbers to describe sets and use positional words like beside, over, and under. They will sort objects by shape and color.
In Handwriting, the students will sing songs and use movement to build fine motor skills. They will learn the four basic shapes of all letters: big line, little line, big curve, little curve. The students will practice writing the following capital letters: F, E, D, P, B, R, N, and M. They are called Frog Jumping Capitals. We will then learn Corner Capitals: H, K, L, U, V, W, X, Y, Z. Handwriting Without Tears is a new handwriting curriculum to GCA. If you would like to learn more about it, check out the website; www.hwtears.com.

Show N Tell ---- Begins in September! Please adhere to the following schedule. If your student is absent or there Friday is a day off, please wait until the next month. If they have something very, very special, send a note to me and we’ll schedule a time for them to bring it in!
